Welcome to Mommy Monday, a spot for me to share with you some of my moments related to motherhood and parenting and the fine blend between family, motherhood and being a Reno baby photographer. Please note, the information provided in these posts is not to replace the sound and professional advice from your health care provider, child’s pediatrician, certified doula or your own maternal instinct.
I recently came across something that is PERFECT if you’re a sentimental mama like I am. My boys started day care this year, about seven months ago to be exact. What exactly does that mean? Um, well, how about an exponential increase in the amount of artwork in my home? And seriously, for a mama like myself who has a hard enough time getting rid of her babies’ things anyway, this is complete torture and chaos and isn’t fair! (I’m stomping my feet like my children right now. Can you just hear it?!)
I was reading a blog post by a friend and fellow photographer Dorie Howell when my jaw dropped and the biggest light bulb went off for me. She found this new app ArtKive and quite simply, it’s the “clutter free way to save and enjoy your child’s artwork”. Isn’t that brilliant? Now, yes, you could just do the same with a camera app, but the ability to tag the artwork and eventually turn it into a book or other keepsakes draws me in big time! And the fact that all artwork is stored in one neat, tidy spot, as opposed to my one generic camera roll! I really wish I had this seven months ago actually.
All right, so how exactly does Artkive work? Simple! Download the app for your iPhone (the Android version is not available yet), create an account, add the name(s) of your child(ren), take photos of their artwork directly within the app, or upload the photo from your camera roll, tag each photo with their name, grade, date, title of their artwork, etc. then share their artwork with the world (or your home) as a beautiful book, or a coffee mug, or one of the other creative products offered.
I cannot wait to make full use of this new app. I think it’s still free, too, so head over to the iTunes Store and pick it up today. These images below are from Artkive. Mine are coming, but I’m off to “artkive” my boys’ artwork right now! And, I already see other uses for this app aside from my boys’ beautiful artwork! What do you think? Good idea or are we just app-crazy today?!
