Reno Photographer | Hey, Huong…

Reno Photographer | Hey, Huong…

Today’s blog post topic is courtesy of my photographer friends and it’s one that required a bit of thought and planning. I went deep diving to gather the two photos you see below. It’s as close as I could find to a digital version of photos of myself as a 20-year old; the rest of my photos are prints still in a box not yet unpacked from my move almost one year ago.

I loved uncovering these old photos and getting inspiration for my post today. Do you remember yourself as a 20-year old? What would you say to your 20-year old self now, if you could? My mind swarms with all the things I want to say and truthfully, I would also want to shake my 20-year old self and say, “Live life to its fullest and enjoy the memories you’re making. Don’t sweat the small stuff.” For my friends and family who have watched my growth and maturity, I bet they’d say I was not a lot of fun and quite the stickler for schedules, timelines and a bit too neurotic.

The images below are deceiving. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I had lots of fun as a 20-year old, but I am much more relaxed and easy going now. Maybe that’s the way life is supposed to happen though. You live, you learn, right? Okay, maybe another thing I’d really like to seriously discuss with my 20-year old self is spending less on things deemed “necessary”. My present self is still paying for some of these decisions my 20-year old self made, but it’s a valuable lesson learned! I have always enjoyed dancing and performing though and if there’s one thing I did well as a 20-year old, I’d say finding my passion for this helped pave the way for many other things I’ve accomplished since then.

I’m sure I could think of a lot more things to say to my 20-year old self, but no one wants to beat a dead horse, right?! And what would my fellow friend Christine say to her 20-year old self? Find out by reading her blog post!

Sarah - I love how you posted photos from when you are younger. That takes a lot to be willing to do. 🙂

Carmen Hall - I love posts like this. Makes you really reflect on who you are by who you were as a young adult.

Cindy M - It doesn’t look like you have aged at all! Sometimes I wish I had a time machine to go back and tell my 20 year old self some things! Thanks for sharing!

Katherine Weeks - hmmmmmm I don’t know that I would want to go back 20 to talk to my 20 year old self…..I might say something to myself that would alter the events of my current life and I have to say that I am loving my current life.
Besides 40 is wayyyyyyy better than 20

Cherilyn H - I love this! Now I want to go look through my old boxes and find pictures from when I was 20. 😉

Christina - So fun! It doesn’t look like to me, that you didn’t sweat the small stuff, when you were 20! You look like you enjoyed the spotlight!

Melissa - I meant to say…20 year old SELF. Not my 20 year old… haha!

Melissa - I’d give my 20 year old a good swift kick in the rear. Then beat her upside the head with a rotten banana.

Tara Colburn - Great photos, Huong! I really enjoyed these, I wish I had time to post some of mine. I wish I wouldn’t have sweated the small stuff back then too!

Welcome to my feature column! I’m so glad you’re here today. Come back and visit often as I’ll write about “my story” twice a month for you. Come along and see how it all came together, how I dived into becoming a Reno Baby Photographer and now offer professional photography services for newborn photography, senior photography and wedding photography. Watch Huong Forrest Photography unfold before you as I work to capture all the moments from birth to “I do”.

I’m not sure if you have been following along via Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, and my personal Facebook page, but I’m in Atlanta, Georgia, at Professional Photographers of America’s annual Imaging USA conference! This is a first time experience for me and I am taking in as much as I possibly can. You get what you put into anything, right?! I’m putting in ALL I can and it’s been amazing!

I’ve finally had the opportunity to meet a wonderful group of women I’ve known for over a year now. We met in an online forum and consider each other friends and interact on an almost daily basis; they are some of my greatest friends. Meeting them in person was not strange in any way and it was as though I was meeting up with friends I hadn’t seen in years!

We all volunteered at PPA Charities event on Saturday night and I’m happy to say we raised quite a bit of money for PPA Charities! Imaging USA is off to a fantastic start with the conference classes kicking off yesterday. The three hour time difference may be kicking my rear just a tad, but it’s all well worth it. The opportunity to meet so many photographer friends and photographers I really look up to is just amazing. I love these conferences and the networking opportunities that exist. I’m learning so much and the continuing education is simply invaluable. I cannot wait to share a full blog post with you all when I return! For now, it’s REALLY late (or early) and I need sleep! I can’t wait to share more, but for now, I’ll leave you with one teaser photo from our Saturday night PPA Charities event!

Meet baby Joshua, a darling newborn boy! He was as awake as could be when I arrived, so I had to make sure I got some photos with his gorgeous baby blues! I think it’s so hard to select one image and call it my absolute favorite. It is a very hard decision! In today’s blog topic amongst my fellow photographer friends and I, we decided to tackle this “favorite photo”. I decided to narrow it down to a genre for my own sanity and it is with that I present to you a favorite newborn image of mine. Note I said “a favorite” so that leaves it open to allowing me several favorites!

This is Baby Liliko’i and she was a mere few days fresh when I met her in 2011. There is a certain peace and serenity about this image that just continues to draw me back again and again. As a professional newborn photographer, I constantly comb through my portfolio to make sure my work is an accurate representation of what my style is and if that means removing older work, then I remove it. However, for me, this image is timeless and it is certainly an aspect of my shooting style. It may always be in my portfolio!

Do you have a favorite photo you’ve taken yourself of your own little ones, or your clients? What is it? Now, head on over to Allyson Photography and see what my friend Ally has picked out for her favorite photo!

Reno Photographer | Mommy Monday { Birthdays }

Reno Photographer | Mommy Monday { Birthdays }

Welcome to Mommy Monday, a spot for me to share with you some of my moments related to motherhood and parenting and the fine blend between family, motherhood and being a Reno photographer. Please note, the information provided in these posts is not to replace the sound and professional advice from your health care provider, child’s pediatrician, certified doula or your own maternal instinct.

It’s been a little bit since my last Mommy Monday post, but here we are again. The Christmas and New Year holidays have come and gone and WHAMMY! It’s Derek’s birthday! My youngest, my baby turned THREE this weekend. SIGH. I was in a bit of angst planning for this as he’s my baby and he’s three now. I think only parents will understand the sort of heartache mixed with excitement with each birthday your child celebrates.

We were up late Friday night making last minute preparations for the little guy’s big day and it was so worth it! His excited little voice in the time between Christmas and his birthday saying, “my bitday” again and again was just worth it. Winter birthdays can be a challenge to plan for, but with the help of the Reno Tumblebus, we made it a blast for Derek and all his little friends. We had the bus for entertainment, along with the boys’ multitude of toys, pizza for lunch and a Peppa Pig themed cake to finish off the party. Derek loves Peppa Pig. Actually, it could be an obsession for him. Long before he could say “Peppa”, he would snort to let us know he wanted to watch his favorite family of British pigs. Oh, how he LOVED his cake!

It was an absolutely amazing day. We rarely host gatherings in our own home, but I’m so glad we did as we could not have asked for a better way to help our baby celebrate his third birthday. It was a really packed event and he was very relieved for the little nap he got in once we got him settled down from all the fun. I really cannot believe my babies are both getting so big. My oldest is already planning his 5th birthday! And it’s so bizarre to tell people I have a “3 and 4 year old”. C’est la vie, oui? Here are a few glimpses into Derek’s celebration!
