Reno Photographer | Are You Board?

Reno Photographer | Are You Board?

I am never “board”. Literally. There’s always so much to do and see, especially when there are two preschool-aged boys in my home. They’re pretty rambunctious boys, but I started to think how nice it would be if we could all sit down together and play a board game of some sort. It was this lovely thought that forced me to come face-to-face with our bizarre assortment of board games. Truthfully, we haven’t touched them in quite some time and I will admit most of these belong to my other half. It was only in walking the toy section with my young boys that I thought how fun would it be to sit and play a game of Operation with them. I imagined the giggles and laughter and I knew we had to look for Operation, but first, I needed to peek into the closet to make sure we didn’t already own it. I peeked into our closet and this is what I discovered:

Randomness. None of these games are very preschool-aged-children-friendly, except for Twister, and the thought of my boys with all the pieces in the game of Monopoly made me want to curl up in a dark corner. 😉 Now, I can plan for and pick up Operation and maybe one other game to introduce my boys to board games. I don’t expect them to drink tea and eat toast with me while we play, but I am sure looking forward to the laughter and smiles on a family board game night in the very near future! What are some of your favorite board games and do you still play them today? Have you introduced your children to your favorite board games?

Now that you have a peek at what I’m “board” about, head over to my friend Tara Colburn Photography in North Carolina to see what she’s “board” about, too!

Tara Colburn - We just bought Operation. I’m excited to play that with the girls! But my girls are like your boys, they just don’t sit still long enough to play board games. Good luck with that!

Reno Photographer | My Favorite Product

Reno Photographer | My Favorite Product

It’s blogging Tuesday with my photographer friends and we’re writing about our favorite product today! Since the topic was not specifically photography related, I knew I had to share about this crazy wrap thing. I’ve been sharing an amazing new product with all of my clients, friends and photography colleagues and it’s called the Ultimate Body Applicator from It Works! Global. It is a lotion-infused cloth that tightens, tones and firms any area of the body from the neck down. It sounds crazy, but results are amazing!

This crazy wrap thing has become my favorite product to help me and my clients look and feel their absolute best when it comes to their wedding day, boudoir session, or any portrait session with your Reno photographer. I found this product through a friend via Facebook and have since fallen head over heels with what this skinny wrap has done for my tummy (and hips, thighs and bum)! It was preparing for my own boudoir session that turned me onto these wraps and when I got my results after one complete treatment, I knew these were too amazing not to share with my photography clients (and everyone who would listen). These wraps have become a part of my health and beauty routine now and many of my Huong Forrest Photography clients get the treatment as well. Just as I get my eyebrows waxed, hair trimmed, mask my face, etc., I now add an extra 45 minutes into my weekly routine to wrap myself! Why wouldn’t I?! Take a look at a few visuals below and tell me you’re not intrigued.

Reno Photographer | Red

Reno Photographer | Red

My fellow photographers and I are trying to get back in the swing of everything blog-worthy! It’s getting to be quite a busy season already, but we want to continue this amazing blogging journey as it’s so much fun to see how we each interpret the different topics. This week, we’re diving into a sea of red and blogging about, well, red. Red is my absolute favorite color. Long before I knew about red lipstick and wearing the Kansas City Chiefs’ red and gold, red was a color that was magnetic to me. Now that I’m an adult, I have a better understanding as to why the color red has always been such a draw for me: passion. I think it’s pretty safe to say how very passionate I am about everything I choose to do in life. And for me, the color red is a great symbol of that, so my interpretation of this week’s topic of red is as PASSION. And I bet you thought I was going to include photos of everything red, like this red square below, right?

reno-photographer-visions-goals

Well, not quite. Interestingly enough, my passion and the red that symbolizes it comes also in the form of black, green and bling. If you’re a friend on Facebook, or you follow me on any of my social media platforms, you’ll know I dived into this crazy wrap thing fully in January and have never once looked back. My photography business has always been a way for me to ultimately do what I am most passionate about–capturing all those special moments from birth to “I do”–but to do so on my time frame and in a manner that would allow me to be the best mother and wife I could possibly be. When this passion for black, bling and green fell into my lap, I took the bull by the horns and wrote out a few goals I would like to accomplish with this additional business venture in 2013: 1. Hit the rank of Ambassador Diamond 2. Pay off all credit card debts 3. Take our first real family vacation, paid for in cash 4. Pay off my car 5. Magic number 40.

Sounds quite crazy, right? Well, this weekend, we crossed off one of the goals on that list: we paid off the remaining balance on my vehicle with my April commission check! This item was not due to be off my list until December or January! It is the most liberating feeling in the whole world and it’s like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This is what PASSION is all about for me. This is what the color red symbolizes in my life. Everything I set my mind to doing, I WILL do. I have huge, audacious goals for the remainder of this year and I will achieve them because with the passion and fire inside me for what I am doing and where this will take my family and my photography business is absolutely unthinkable. I will not let anything or anyone hold me back, or stand in my way, so watch out!

Do you dream big? What COLOR do you dream in and how do YOU interpret today’s topic of red? Leave a comment below to tell me! That’s my spin on the color red this week! Head over to my friend Christine’s blog to see where she went with this week’s topic on red! I can’t wait to read all about this!

Reno Photographer | Mommy Monday { Mother’s Day }

Welcome to Mommy Monday, a spot for me to share with you some of my moments related to motherhood and parenting and the fine blend between family, motherhood and being a Reno photographer. Please note, the information provided in these posts is not to replace the sound and professional advice from your health care provider, child’s pediatrician, certified doula or your own maternal instinct.

It’s MOMMY MONDAY!!! Have you missed these articles? Well, it’s been crazy, but I hope I’m back to a bit more regular blogging here and I hope you’re ready to read along. I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day! Did you do anything special with your little ones? Or did your once little, now big ones, have something special in store for you? I get to photograph a lot of moms throughout the year and am so happy to have the opportunity to work with so many wonderful women. Some moms are first time moms and others are seasoned moms. Either way, I think moms are pretty special all the way around and I hope they’re treated well every day of the year and not just Mother’s Day! Here’s a peek at some of the moms I’ve photographed recently and of course, what kind of Mommy Monday post would it be without a snapshot of my little ones and I? We had a wonderful weekend filled with lots of family time. What did you all do this weekend?

Thomas Ashley - Great job, Love the photos!

Reno Photographer | A Lesson Learned

Reno Photographer | A Lesson Learned

Most days, I appear to be superwoman: wife, mother, professional photographer of newborns, women and weddings, diamond executive wrap diva and hotel sales director. What?! Yes, it’s true. I have a variety of projects on my plate at any given moment, but you know what? I love the thrill of all the accomplishments and I love all the people I meet as a result of the various circles of influence in my life.

What I’ve come to realize with growth and “success” is there really is such a thing as balance and I should not do it all. Owning and operating a small business, let alone two, is not a walk through the park. There are so many aspects that are taken for granted when one is employed versus being the employer/owner/operator. I’ve been the bookkeeper (a crappy one), accountant, customer service representative, administrative assistant, sales person, order taker, product packer, designer, coordinator, marketing guru, editor and oh yes, there’s photographer on top of it all.

Where am I going with all of this? Well, this week, my photographer friends and I have decided to each write about a lesson we’ve learned recently. And while I’m somewhat ashamed to just now take this step, I’m glad it’s finally happening! I am not superwoman and would love to have a much more balanced life. Do I really need to fill every single role in the successful operation of my businesses? Absolutely not. Could I find experts in the areas that I do not enjoy to accomplish those much needed tasks? Sure can! Is the money I pay for those services worth my time in return? Oh heavens yes! I’m now looking for a tax attorney, someone to clean my home, someone to keep my grass green and a bookkeeper. I have new systems in place to better streamline my workflow and coming very soon…there will be OFFICE HOURS. I know, crazy, right?! You would never know by looking at your Reno Photographer the great weight that lies on the shoulders of an individual, but that weight will be no more. I truly do believe God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers, but maybe this is a test of whether or not I’ll let go of being stubborn and ALLOW help to happen. Interesting, isn’t it?

That’s my lesson for myself and maybe if you’re anything like me, I hope this helps you, too! Now, head over to my friend Allyson Photography’s blog to read about a lesson she learned recently! Hopefully it’s nothing like mine!
